Synopsis

Created for Able Carrys Crafted with Care series, this project documented the life and work of Kusumi-san, a third generation Japanese plasterer based on Awaji Island. Produced as part of a larger international campaign highlighting individual artists across the world, the film focused on craftsmanship, tradition, and the relationship between people and their environments through a quiet documentary approach.

The production involved interview coverage, environmental cinematography, lighting setup, and audio recording captured throughout the island and Kusumi-sans workspace. The visual direction emphasized natural textures, atmosphere, and the slower rhythms of everyday craftsmanship. Alongside the interview footage, cinematic shots of the studio, surrounding landscapes, tools, and plastering process were captured to support the final edited piece produced by Able Carrys internal team.
